Because of its simple visa requirements, the United Arab Emirates (also known as the Emirates or the UAE) is a popular destination among expatriates. The country is a great choice for international expansion. Like any country, there are strict requirements regarding immigration, residency visas and work permits.
Different types of work visas in the United Arab Emirates
One type of work permit is available in the UAE. This permit is also known as a labor card. Before applying for a work permit, employees must have an Emirate ID, an Emirate visa, and an entry visa.
UAE Work Visas: What are the requirements?
The following documents are required for a UAE residence visa:
- You will need a photocopy and a valid passport.
- Photos of passports
- A Emirates ID card
- A Ministry of Labor entry permit
- Results of a medical screening
- Copy of the company card from employer
- A copy of the company’s commercial licence
After obtaining a residence permit, the employee can apply for a work visa. The employee must have all the above documents, as well as the work permit application form in Arabic.
Apply Process
It might be useful to consider the three steps involved in obtaining a UAE work visa. These stages include obtaining an employment visa, obtaining an Emirates ID card (also known by a Resident Identity Card), as well as obtaining a residence visa.
How to get an entry visa for the UAE
A pink visa is used to refer to an employment visa for the UAE. The employer must first apply for visa approval on behalf the employee to begin the process of getting this permit. This approval will be granted by the Ministry of Labour (MOL).
The employer will then submit an employment contract for the MOL. This contract must be signed by the prospective employee.
Before issuing an employment visa, the Ministry must approve the work permit application. After the visa is approved, the employee can enter the UAE for two months.
An employee who enters the UAE with a pink visa has 60 days to apply for a residence visa or formal work permit.
Get an Emirates ID
For medical screening, employees must have an Emirates ID. This is necessary to apply for a residence permit. An employee must bring their original passport, as well as a copy of their entry visa, in order to apply for an ID. The Emirates Identity Authority (EIDA), where employees will submit biometrics, including fingerprints and a photo, will be required to apply in person.
How to get a Work Permit and a Residence Visa
All of the documents required to apply for a residence permit in the UAE will be needed by the employee. The UAE residence visa is valid for up to three years. It can also be renewed. As part of the residency visa, an employee’s work permit is listed.
After the approval of the work permit, the employee is authorized to officially start working.
Other important considerations
Working in the UAE requires that work permits be sponsored by entities that are licensed in the UAE and have been incorporated in the UAE. Companies in the initial stages of global expansion may find this requirement difficult. You can also work with a global PO to be the Employer of Record in UAE if your company doesn’t have an established presence.
Employees may wish to bring their family members to the UAE. Once they have received their resident visa, employees can sponsor family members for residency visas.
